No Trust Fund, No Problem: How Artist Maria Gurikhina Built a Sustainable Art Career by 25
A conversation on strategy, community, work-ethics, and building an art career without privilege featuring printmaker & gallerist Maria Gurikhina.

At just 25, Maria Gurikhina has already achieved what many artists hope to build over decades:
Won over 15 international awards, including the La Beca Pilar Juncosa – Fundació Joan Miró Mallorca
Exhibited in 6 international biennales and over 29 exhibitions
Sold her artworks to public, private and museum art collections around the world, such as in the Taiwan National Museum of Fine Arts and Charles Aznavour Museum in Armenia.
Participated in 8 art fairs and auctions, including the Art on Paper Festival, FIG Bilbao
And founded her own gallery — Magber Gallery, one of our Certified Allies.
In our most recent episode of OffStudio — Artist Ally Spotify podcast, where we explore the off-studio side of an artistic life through honest conversations — Maria joins me for a raw and deeply insightful dialogue on what it truly takes to build a sustainable career without privilege. Her story is one of the clearest examples of how structure, community, and clarity can carry an artist far.
Maria and XAV at a Znak Community event
We’ve known each other for three years and collaborated on several projects. From the very start, I was struck by Maria’s clarity, discipline, and her unapologetic authenticity; qualities that now form the foundation of her success.
Coming from St. Petersburg and trained on scholarship at the prestigious Imperial Academy of Fine Arts, Maria has crafted her path with her own hands — proof that strategy, structure, and inner power can coexist beautifully with creativity.
💬 In this conversation, we unpack:
How to build a professional art career from scratch
The truth behind art school culture and over-criticism
Finding balance: rest cycles and work-life harmony
Off-studio strategy — discipline, organization, and mindset
The role of community, care, and self-trust in long-term growth
This episode is a perfect example of what we stand for at Artist Ally: nurturing artists not only through tools and structure, but through clarity, self-awareness, and purpose.
